On a pitched roof, gravity carries rainwater away — it flows down and leaves the surface. A flat roof has no such natural helper. This means that every millimetre of surface damage is a direct route for water to get inside — and water will find that route unless we seal it completely.
In Latvia's climate, a flat roof must withstand three distinct stress factors. First — UV radiation and temperature swings. Why does water pool on a flat roof after rain?
Flat roofs are not perfectly horizontal — they require a 1.5–3% fall towards outlets or drainage points. If the drainage is blocked or the fall is incorrect, water stands.
